9x19mm terminal ballistic test

Test:

In search for the perfect personal defense load in 9x19mm, I conducted a wetpack test of the following ammunition with a Glock 19 (9x19mm, 102mm / 4" Barrel):

9x19mm Federal Expanding Full Metal Jacket 124grs +P
9x19mm Fiocchi Frangible Plastic Round Nose 82grs
9x19mm Magtech Full Metal Jacked 124grs

Wetpack:

The wetpack was realtively hard. It consisted of outdated law-textbooks soaked for six hours.

Result:

9x19mm Federal Expanding Full Metal Jacket 124grs +P

The Federal EMFJ worked better than expected. It expanded to 18mm (0,70") and stopped after 11,5cm (4,52"). The accuracy of the expansion was impressive. The bullet taken from the wetpack looked like a perfect computer simulation of a how it should be. The wetpack showed an impressive shockwave with a diameter of up to 6,5cm (2,55").

9x19mm Fiocchi Frangible Plastic Round Nose 82grs

The frangible Fiocchi Semi Jacket Plastic Round Nose bullet did not deform at all. It did wide superficial damage to the cover of the first book in the pack, which I assume was due to the bullet's high muzzle-speed of 467m/s (1532fps). Then it almost behaved like a Full Metal Jacket and penetrated the wetpack 14,5cm (5,7"). The last picture in the Fiocchi-Column shows the bullet taken from the wetpack and an unused cartridge. The bullet taken from the wetpack was perfectly intact.

9x19mm Magtech Full Metal Jacked 124grs

This Full Metal Jacked behaved as expected. It penetrated the farthest of all three bullets tested, stopped after 20,5cm (8,07") and left a thin and deep channel in the wetpack.

Conclusion:

My personal conclusion is, that the only bullet of the three tested likely satisfy in a defense situation is the Federal EMFJ.
